The Amarillo Venom offense rolled to a league-high 94 points against the Centex Calvary on Saturday at the Amarillo Civic Center Cal Farley’s Coliseum.

Amarillo (6-0) scored on each of its possessions in the 94-63 rout until time expired on their final drive of the game.

“We left a couple things on the field,” Venom head coach Julian Reese said. “We had to fight to get to 100. We were just trying to get to a goal that they set and fell a little short.”

Venom quarterback Nate Davis set two new season-highs for himself this week, throwing for 258 yards and nine touchdowns. Davis’ previous high was seven touchdowns last week, earning him Champions Indoor Football League offensive player of the week honors.

“He’s really starting to get a feel for the offense,” Reese noted. “We’re letting him make the calls and I just make sure it’s in the realm of what we do and he’s doing a great job at it.”

Davis also threw touchdowns to five different receivers, with Cedric Gilbert hauling in three for the second consecutive week. Overall, Gilbert caught eight passes for 82 yards to lead the team.

Amarillo also showed a more balanced attack, compiling 87 rushing yards as a team. Jah’son Patterson led the way with 55 yards on five carries, while Jer’Yl Christian tallied 13 yards on four touches and two scores.

The Venom defense also had a big night, forcing three turnovers that allowed Amarillo to pull away late. They were able to recover one fumble and picked off Calvary (0-7) quarterback Daron Ellis twice, including Kiwaski Tenner’s 18-yard pick-six that capped off the Venom’s scoring.

“We still have to clean it up a little,” said Reese. “We’re still giving up too many points. We can’t keep coming out having shootouts every week.”

Amarillo now stands as the lone undefeated team in the CIF after Sioux City (6-1) fell 76-35 to the West Michigan Ironmen (3-4). The Venom still hold a half-game lead over Dodge City (6-1) in the South Division.

Next up for the Venom will be a rematch from last week’s 70-63 win over the Texas Revolution (4-2) on Apr. 30 at 3:05 p.m. at the Allen Events Center in Allen.
