Venom Clinch Playoffs with Win

The Amarillo Venom eliminated the Duke City Gladiators from Champions Indoor Football postseason contention Saturday night with a 69-46 victory at Tingley Coliseum.

The Gladiators (5-6) led 34-28 early in the third period before being outscored 41-12 the rest of the way. QB Nate Davis led Amarillo (7-4) with six TD passes and no interceptions. Raymond Johnson had four of those scoring receptions.

Helping to foil Duke City was that it was called for 19 penalties totaling 156 yards.

With one week left in the regular season, Amarillo holds a two-game lead over Duke City for the final playoff berth in the CIF’s Southern Division.

The win was the second in three weeks by the Venom over Duke City.
